The
Telephone Preference Service (TPS) helps you to
make sure your telephone number is no longer available
to organisations that may telephone you with offers
and information you do not wish to receive.
Under Government legislation introduced on 1
May 1999 it is unlawful to make unsolicited direct
marketing telephone calls to individuals who have
indicated that they do not want to receive such
calls.
You can do this either by contacting
each company directly and asking them not to call
you or you can register with the Telephone
Preference Service.
You can register with the TPS via the internet,
by telephone or by letter (contact details above).
However, you need to know that registering with
the TPS may prevent you from receiving information
which you would really like to have.
Registration will stop organisations that regard
you as a customer from calling you again, unless
you have previously told them that you have no
objection to them calling you.
There are also preference services for mail
and fax.
