The Learning Disability Helpline is a free, confidential
service provided by Mencap.
It is supported by the Department of Health.
It is for anyone who wants information or advice on
anything to do with learning disability.
It covers everything from money and benefits to the
services and support groups that are available.
We can’t answer questions about Northern Ireland,
Scotland or Wales.
Provide information …
We can answer many of your questions instantly, thanks
to our national information database. If we can’t
answer on the spot, we’ll fully research our answer
and come back to you as soon as we can. Our information
materials are easy to follow and can be made accessible
to people with a learning disability.
Listen …
Whatever your query or problem, we’ll be sensitive
and sympathetic. Before giving you an answer, we’ll
always make sure we have understood exactly what you
want help with.
Support …
Sometimes you might need more than just information.
While we can’t offer a full counselling service,
we can provide a sympathetic wear – if that’s
what you need.
Advise …
Our first aim is always to give you information so
that you can decide what to do yourself. But if you
need a bit more guidance, we’ll try to point you
in the right direction.
Signpost …
Sometimes another organisation may be able to help
you with your question or problem. Using our directory
of alternative sources of advice, we’ll put you
in touch with the right people.
