An Accessible Summary of the Housing Plan

We are writing a plan about housing for people with learning difficulties who live in South Gloucestershire.

Here is a summary of what people said to us;

1.   We need more information that we can understand.  There needs to be more choice about where we can live and the support we can get

2.   We need to make more houses for people who want to live with their friends

3.   We need more choice for people who are older.

4.   We need to help people who live with parents or carers who are older than 65 years old to make plans for where they live

5.   Some staff and some carers stop people moving where they want to or don't let them know what choices there are

6.   There needs to be more information about what we want for us to make plans with.

7.   People should not need to go and live in a nursing home unless they want to

The Learning Difficulties Partnership Board is writing this plan to change some things after what you told us

This is what we will be doing;

1.   We will give people information that they can understand about moving house, if they want to

2.   We will make more houses or flats for people who want to live with their friends

3.    We will find out the kind of support and homes older people want and we will work to give them these.

4.   We will give people who are living with carers or parents over 65 years old information about moving. We will also see whether it is possible to make some new flats for people like this

5.   We will run an information day for staff and carers to find out about housing. We will have a day every year for people who have a learning difficulty to tell us what they want. We will make information so that people can understand it

6.   The Learning Difficulties Partnership Board will work to ask different people about moving and to find out what they want. We will write this down and make plans with it

7.    People who do not want to go to live in a nursing home will have help to understand the choices they have about where they live
