Under
Government legislation introduced on 1 May 1999
is it unlawful to send an individual an unsolicited
sales and marketing fax without prior permission.
You
can stop getting unwanted faxes either by contacting
each company directly and asking them not to send
you faxes or you can register fax numbers on which
you do not wish to receive direct marketing faxes
with the Fax Preference Service.
You
can register with the FPS via the internet, by
telephone or by letter (contact details above).
The service is free.
However,
you need to know that registering with the FPS
may prevent you from receiving information that
you would like to have.
There
are also preference services for telephone and
mail.
