Music therapy sessions offer people with learning difficulties a shared time for exploring music and sounds with the music therapist within a group or one-to-one.

This shared experience can be both positive and creative, particularly when communication and self-expression are difficult for some reason.

Through the non-verbal medium of music, the qualified music therapist is able to support and facilitate self-expression.

People who are not reached or motivated through other means can often find in music therapy a safe place to explore and express their feelings and emotions.

Most sessions are with individuals, but groups can be seen when this is appropriate.

Music therapy can help with improved communication and social skills; enhanced awareness of self and others; decreasing tension, anxiety and challenging behaviour.
